Anxiously trying to fit into the peer-pressure-cooker environment of junior high, thirteen year old Tracy (Evan Rachel Wood) goes to shocking lengths in order to befriend Evie (co-writer Nikki Reed), the most popular girl in school. Now the two are inseparable – and incorrigible – leaving Tracy’s desperate mother (Academy Award winner Holly Hunter) powerless to rescue her from a whirlwind of drugs, sex and crime.

New community!

Brand new, and looking for participants!

Each challenge will focus on an actor, and each round of that challenge will focus on one of that actor's roles. For instance, if the actor was Ewan McGregor, there could be a round for Renton from Trainspotting, then the next round might be Christian from Moulin Rouge!

The first challenge will start as soon as we have enough participants, so JOIN JOIN JOIN!! The first challenge will focus on Gael Garcia Bernal.

Ok so I'm doing a project in my Spanish class on Alejandro Amenábar and I would really appreciate it if someone would re-upload the movie Tesis for me using something like megaupload because I can't figure it out the way it is. If it's too much trouble, thanks anyway.

I recently saw a great LGBTQ film called "Soldier's Girl". It first aired on Showtime, based on a true story,  and it's available on dvd. Here's the Netflix summary:

This powerful drama tells the true story of a young soldier, Pfc. Barry Winchell (Troy Garity), who meets and falls for a beautiful transgendered performer (Lee Pace) while on a drunken outing with fellow soldiers. But the relationship is frowned upon by the other soldiers and

eventually leads to Barry's brutal death at the hands of his homophobic roommate.

Garity and Pace were both nominated for Independent Spirit Awards for their performances.
Garity and Pace both deserved the noms, they did a great job.  If you're interested in films that explore unconventional love relationships and sexuality as a fluid rather than static state, this film is for you. One caveat, the dvd version I received from Netflix had a really obnoxious copyright statement that would pop up periodically throughout the film and interrupt the mood created during the scene. :-( It made me want to burn a copy just to spite them, but I didn't.

I've made a new community for my movie reviews and whatnot. It's all shiny and new (and by that, I mean hideous and a day old), so feel free to friend/join it. As it is right now, only I have posting access, but that might possibly change depending on what other people want later on.

PS: I'm completely aware of the fact that the name is terrible. I was uninspired and listening to a song called The Gleam, and bad things happened. lol.

Has anyone seen any good movies recently? I need some recommendations! Not necessarily just never_seen_it type movies, just good movies in general. Any suggestions?

I have a small request. You may delete this post if it's off topic. All of the movies that have been posted to be downloaded won't work for me. I don't know if there is something wrong with my computer or I'm just dumb. I'm dying to see them all so if anyone would love to make my day could someone upload them to megaupload or something like that? If not it's ok. Thanks.

I watched these three movies last weekend.

A uniquely compelling exploration of fame and identity. The drama, inspired by one of Hollywood's most infamous real-life mysteries, follows a 1950's private detective who, investigating the mysterious death of "Superman" star George Reeves, uncovers unexpected connections to his own life as the case turns ever more personal. The torrid affair Reeves had with the wife of a studio executive might hold the key to the truth.

I saw this one in theatres and enjoyed it very much! I felt it could have been better, but overall, I was satisfied and particularly fond of Adrien Brody's performance (although I'm particularly fond of Adrien Brody in general).

Temporada de patos [Duck Season]

Flama and Moko are fourteen years old; they have been best friends since they were kids. They have everything they need to survive yet another boring Sunday: an apartment without parents, videogames, porn magazines, soft drinks and pizza delivery. The electricity company, Rita, the neighbor, Ulises, a pizza deliveryman, eleven seconds, the Real Madrid-Manchester game, some chocolate brownies and a horrible painting of ducks, all combine to break the harmony of what promised to be a placid Sunday, and reveal issues such as the parents' divorce, loneliness, the confusion between adolescent love and friendship, as well as frustration in adult life. This is a movie that shows that, when the lights go off, we can see the stars. Black and White, and in Spanish.

I saw this one on DVD, and it moved me very much. It's simple, but very, very powerful, with an interesting style.

Sommersturm [Summer Storm]

Tobi and Achim, the pride of the local crew club, have been the best of friends for years and are convinced that nothing will ever stand in the way of their friendship. They look forward to the upcoming summer camp and the crew competition. Achim's girlfriend Sandra is on the girl's team and he enjoys spending more time with her. Tobi becomes increasingly skeptical of their relationship. Anke, the pretty girl who has fallen for Tobi, doesn't make things any easier. Then the gay team from Berlin arrives and Tobi is totally confused. The evening before the races begin, the storm that breaks out is more than meteorlogical... A sensitive story about the complexities of growing up. In German.

Honestly, I was a bit disappointed by this one. Judging by what I had heard about it, I was expecting something somewhat deep, but it felt a bit clichéd to me, although I feel it is still worth watching. Don't take my word for it, because some people absolutely love it, hehe.

Birthday: June 3, 1986. I like it because as soon as school gets out, I get to have a dance party. I also noticed while browsing that another new member has this birthday. I've never met anyone else born on June 3! YAY!

Likes: I love love love love love weather. Hence why I'm a meteorology major. Dew points are my favorite. I also love love love love love film. Hence why my second major is Film. I'm also pretty big on ridiculously simple video games that don't require much skill, going to concerts and subsequently collecting setlists, watching Project Runway (old and new seasons...I'm so ashamed of this one), and blowing bubbles with Bubblicious Watermelon Wave Bubble Gum. Oh yes, and rainbows and unicorns and Al Gore.

Dislikes: Writing papers, chick peas, being late, political hacks, and driving. Well, driving is a love-hate relationship. So maybe that one doesn't count so much?

Favorite Films?:The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou changed my life and I didn't even realize it until I saw The Squid and The Whale. That's really the only way I know how to explain it, so yes, those two movies. I like An Inconvenient Truth because it combines almost all of the things I love into one film (there just needed to be a unicorn...) and I think Robert DeNiro is amazing in Taxi Driver. And recently, I've fallen madly in love with Little Miss Sunshine.

Anything Else?: I'm combining my two majors (meteorology and film) eventually and plan on making documentaries about severe weather, global warming, energy policies, etc...I will be heading over to Cambridge, England next year to study and start a documentary on English Energy Use. Yeah. I'm rather excited.

I don't know if anyone has posted about either of these yet, but I saw these two recently and thought I'd post about them. :)

Cidade Baixa [Lower City]

Lifelong friends Deco and Naldinho, who own a small steaming boat in Bahia, meet strip-dancer Karinna. Both men fall for her and their friendship is deeply shattered.

I saw this August 30 at an indie theatre and loved it. It's in Portuguese and stars Lázaro Ramos, Wagner Moura, and Alice Braga. I've heard it compared to Y tu mamá también and City of God, and while I haven't yet seen City of God, I did notice a couple similarities to Y tu mamá también. It's very intense at times and has quite an ambiguous ending, which I loved. Highly recommended, comes to region 1 DVD September 12!

The Illusionist

A magician in turn-of-the-century Vienna who falls in love with a woman well above his social standing. When she becomes engaged to a prince, the magician uses his powers to win her back and undermine the stability of the royal house of Vienna.

I saw this one earlier today, and it's one of my favorites of the year so far. Edward Norton stars, along with Jessica Biel, Paul Giamatti, and Rufus Sewell. It's very mesmerizing, with terrific performances, a clever story, and a fitting dark feel to the cinematography. I'm in love with this movie. ♥
