Film review: Soldier's Girl
I recently saw a great LGBTQ film called "Soldier's Girl". It first aired on Showtime, based on a true story,  and it's available on dvd. Here's the Netflix summary:

This powerful drama tells the true story of a young soldier, Pfc. Barry Winchell (Troy Garity), who meets and falls for a beautiful transgendered performer (Lee Pace) while on a drunken outing with fellow soldiers. But the relationship is frowned upon by the other soldiers and

 ****SPOILER****
eventually leads to Barry's brutal death at the hands of his homophobic roommate.

Garity and Pace were both nominated for Independent Spirit Awards for their performances.
Garity and Pace both deserved the noms, they did a great job.  If you're interested in films that explore unconventional love relationships and sexuality as a fluid rather than static state, this film is for you. One caveat, the dvd version I received from Netflix had a really obnoxious copyright statement that would pop up periodically throughout the film and interrupt the mood created during the scene. :-( It made me want to burn a copy just to spite them, but I didn't.

I adore Lee Pace, and saw this movie awhile ago.
It was so good, but SO SAD.

It's hard for me to watch movies like that, because I tend to get really emotionally involved. But I'd rather have seen it and been able to appreciate a preformence than not and miss out.

Now for a non-topic-oriented question: Do you enjoy writing reviews for new movies that you've seen? I'm in the process of starting a review community, and am looking for people with very different oppinions and tastes to help be reviewers. Would you be interested in hearing more about it, and possibly being involved?

I felt conflicted after seeing it; I was glad to have seen it because it was a good homage to his memory but it made me feel melancholy afterwards.

I'd be interested in your review community. Just link me to it :-)

I'm still currently putting everything together for it, including the movie list, members, the form, the layout, and erm...the name?
But it should be all put together soon.
I'm very excuted to get this off the ground.

I'm still currently in the process of trying to recruit some more people to help me with it.
My idea for the community would include giving each member a role.
Every member would either be a reviewer, a prospective viewer [someone who comes to the comm to READ the reviews], or an uploader. The community would provide the reviewers wuith a version of the film to be reviewed and a short form to fill out afterwards.
We'd then combine all of the different reviews and make them available for others to read and use to help them decide on what they think seems promising.
I am currently searching for a place that has good, varied reviews of movies, but could never really find one, so i decided to try and make one myself.

If you're still interested, please tell me! If not, that's fine also. I hope you are though...the more people I can get to take part in it, the more different opinions we will be able to offer, and that idea makes me happy.

I took a look at it and it looks great. :-) I like the layout, the alphabetized film recc. list, and the faq is helpful and clear. I will fill out the application. Looking forward to the first film. :-)

Aww you really did look around.
It's nice to know that someone noticed all the work I put into it.
:D I can't wait to make you a member :)

I really love this film and the acting by Garity and Pace.
